NOIDA, India
2024 Enrollment: 125 Girls
Edu-GIRLS Support To Date: $63K
NOIDA, a vibrant city of about a million near New Delhi, attracts unskilled workers providing household and basic services. They can only afford to live in its slums. An estimated 25,000 of the children of these families are mostly engaged in rag picking or begging. They do not go to school and in the absence of any skills to make a living, remain trapped in poverty or are tempted into the underworld.
The Founders’ Vision: “To eliminate the need for kids to go rag-picking, lead them into schools, empower them to seek out relevant career paths to lead a mainstream life, and in the process, transform the lives of the communities in which they live.” A basic model of incubation, family engagement, schooling and mainstreaming has been painstakingly developed and is ready for scaling up incorporating lessons of Edu-GIRLS’ Ten Mantras model.
GOALS for 2024/25:
Launch independent system for assessing learning levels of girls and teachers’ skills;
Put in place a system to measure the Key Performance Indicators.
Establish a Teacher Assessment, Support and Incentive program.
Recruit an administrator and Counsellor for Career Development;
Set up a scholarship program for girls to finish high school; and
Get accredited by National Institution of Open Schools up to grade 8.
Future Plans:
Increase enrollment 250 to 750 girls by 2027/28
Ensure that at least 80% of children enrolled complete Class 12
Place 75% of these school graduates into vocational training or professional careers.
Minimize dropout rate to under 5 percent.
“Edu-GIRLS/Anand Seth enthusiasm for the cause is contagious. They continuously inspire us to stretch our limits. This collaboration has helped us scale up the operations and in reaching out to more children, faster"
