Edu-GIRLS Support to Date: $332,000

2026 Enrollment: 170 Girls

Grade 10 Board exams: Pass rate has declined from 100% in 2023/24 to 77% as has the % of girls scoring in the first class, from 75% to 38%. This trend needs to be reversed.

SRGVVK Trust Charitable School was established in 1991, and was accredited to Edu-GIRLS in 2016. It is housed on a small homestead where the founding couple live and house the school up to grade 7, after which girls are placed in private schools through Edu-GIRLS scholarships. The small campus has been renovated with the help of a Rotary International grant and a new floor added. SRGVVK caters to children of economically disadvantaged families. Parents are agricultural workers, maids, migrant construction workers, stone cutters or drivers, living in shacks but keen to send little girls to school.

Further growth is constrained by the lack of quality space and a program to replace the administrative block with multi story class room block has been developed and funds are being mobilized to cover the $250,000 project.

Challenge to Restore Pass rate to 100%.

Program Highlights

No Fees: The school does not charge fees for girls, offering tuition, uniforms, books, and mid-day meals and also safe transportation for a nominal fee.

Girls in grades 4 to 9 take ASSET tests, which are taken by 500,000 children in 1000 English medium private schools, enabling progress to be benchmarked against the best schools on continuously. Grade 8-9 girls are 12 above the national average, while grade 4 to 7 are at 94%.

Teachers are independently tested every year for their subject matter and pedagogical skills, supported through special training programs and provided salary incentives as they show improvement. Teacher retention is an issue being addressed through better compensation and benefits.

Post Grade 7 Edu-GIRLS scholarships are offered to study in two approved private English medium schools to finish high school. 62 girls are in this program.
