Enhancing Quality in KREIS GOVT. Schools for Girls
A Rotary Youth Leadership Academy Initiative with Edu-GIRLS
Objective: To improve the quality of outcomes of 200 residential schools run by the Government of Karnataka for economically challenged girls, by adapting the RBA system and the Digital Learning Program (DLP), to the circumstance of Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS) Government schools using the software built by Educational Initiatives Inc.
Concept: Before engaging with all 200 schools, it is planned to start with an initial 12-18 month intervention in 2 schools with about 500 girls with two other schools serving as a control where only testing would be done. The RBA module’s Teacher Skilling Program would be modified to put considerable emphasis on creating an environment through positive reinforcement for the pursuit of excellence. The DLP module would be built to take full advantage of KREIS schools being residential to offer 24x7 online self-learning support.
Cost: Given that the Government spends about $1000 per year per girls to cover all the basic costs of Teacher salaries, Boarding & Lodging and Uniforms, the incremental cost of adding the RBA, Teacher Skilling and DLP modules comes to roughly 10 cents per day per girl.
